New Year’s reflection

New Years’s Reflection Blog

Another year is gone, and I accomplished more than I expected yet less than I wanted. Since having a kid 3 years ago I have struggled with getting back into playing guitar and playing out. With that being said this year I learned 15 country songs and did play a show which I did not expect to happen for 2024.

I wanted to focus on my blog for 2024 which in some way I did by posting more blogs than the last 2 years combined but less than my twice a month goal that I started with. Part of my dilemma that I found was the “why” I needed to narrow down and what I should be focusing on. I do believe more of my posts were related to country music than any other genre interesting enough.

I come from metal and rock and for my entire life I focused on metal guitar playing. I live in a state that is very country and naturally makes a lot of sense for me to end up gravitating towards that style of music. I think that the guitar work of 80’s and 90’s country music is just plain awesome, so it gave me a standard of excellence to pursue.

What do I have planned for the upcoming year is the question we all ponder as the 1st of January approaches. I want to write more often and become a better writer not just for the sake of this blog, or those who care about what I have to say, but because writing is a therapeutic tool that everyone should use. Lincoln wrote, Tony Robbins writes, Theodore Roosevelt wrote. The great men of the now and of the past were writers and so we must all follow in their footsteps.

Since I learned country songs, I just need to learn a few more and then have a steady amount to rotate as I play around town. The singer that I have wants to do rock as well so there are songs on the list for Whitesnake, Motley Crue, etc. Which is fine, after all I did play metal not that long ago. I can’t forget about teaching guitar which I have 2 new students starting in January and possibly a 3rd. It looks like I will be more involved in playing and teaching music in 2025.

I will continue to listen to and review albums both ones from 2024 that I didn’t get a chance to and any that come during 2025. I love listening to music, but the challenge is to write about music but with all things it takes research, dedication, and just doing it over and over again.

I wish everyone a Happy New Year and may this year be filled with fulfilling work, delicious food, and great music!
